Cell Phone Driving Fatalities

If if seeing a driver to your right on the interstate, gabbing away on his cell phone gets you ticked off, you’ve got a right to be. Multiple studies have demonstrated that operating a vehicle while talking on a cell phone can be as deadly as driving with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit. Estimates of the number of U.S. traffic fatalities instigated by cell phone use while operating a vehicle  are normally in the 2,000 - 3,000 range with 100 times as many injuries.

The best fix for the plague of cell phone  collisions, would be common sense by many drivers and a realization that the common practice is rude and dangerous. Without a sudden epidemic of intelligence, law creation and strict enforcement need to be actualized. Bringing forth  legislation will be difficult given the lobbying ability of the cell phone industry. The effort, though, added to public education, can rescue thousands of lives annually .

Botulism Recall

Hot dog chili sauce canned in Georgia has been linked to at least  four cases of botulism in the United States. The victims, the first to be involved with a botulism infection involving commercial canning since the 70’s, are in  the states of Texas and Indiana. The  infected products are 10-ounce cans of Castleberry’s, Austex and Kroger brands of  chili  dog sauce with best if used by dates from April 30, 2009, through May 22, 2009.

The recalled  chili dog sauce is created  by the Castleberry Food Co., which is owned by Bumble Bee Seafoods LLC, and was then canned at the Castleberry factory in Augusta, Georgia.

Botulism is a paralyzing disease affecting the muscles caused by a toxin thats made by a bacterium that we call botulism.

People  with any recalled cans are encouraged to discard the cans  without opening them.

FDA officials say the toxin is so strong that just getting it on your hands can make you sick.

It may be 6 hours to 2 weeks before  you seem symptoms.

This is the second recall of food from Georgia this year. Last time it was salmonella.

uninsured motorist coverage

With hundreds of accidents in any given metro area monthly, many many people are left weithout hope of ever being compensated fully for their injuries. Unless they have the one coverage they need.

Uninsured motorist coverage.

For example California law  has required liability insurance for years, most states do. However California has a real problem with uninsured drivers. Estimates are at 23% of drivers have no insurance at all. We hope that lawmakers will design a solution.

San Diego has even higher numbers, on not only uninsured, but also unlicensed. How do you  protect yourself from an insured driver? Buy as much uninsured motorist coverage as you can.

Numb Tongue

Most everyone will have their wisdom teeth removed, its a very common procedure.  however if its done incorrectly, the patient can end up with a permanently numb tongue. Sensation and taste are delivered to the tongue through the lingual nerve.

The day after the tooth extraction if your tongue is still numb you should report this issue to the surgeaon who performed the work. Consider getting a second opinion from a clinic that examines and evaluates lingual nerve damage. This shoudl be done forthright if you are wanting to get the nerve repaired. Most oral surgeons believe the success rate is higher if it is addressed quickly.

Caution,  some patients who have an injured lingual nerve are informed that it was part of the consent form the patient signed or was a calculated risk of the procedure — that is nonsense and  irrelevant. The real issue is whether the wisdom tooth extraction was performed properly or not.

Nursing Home Neglect

According to statistics by the year 2030, almost 9 million  people will be 85 or older. Thats 2 times what we have now.

And many will be off to nursing homes to receive specialized care. We can expect a nursing shortage with so many people needing  care in so short a time span. You may know that at current , neglect is the number one reason behind nursing home abuse lawsuit cases.

A study of nationwide incidences discovered that 551,011 seniors over 60, were victims of abuse or neglect in a one year time frame. Your loved one may die prematurely, and suffer things like malnutrition, bedsores, undue weight loss, the list goes on.

if you suspect any of these things, call an attorney immediately.
Its nto right that our helpless elders suffer  due to someones apathy. Would they do that to their parents??

Diet Drug causes Suicide

One of the largest drug makers in the world,  Sanofi-Aventi, retracted its application for Zimulti weight loss drug here in the states. The FDA voted that Zimulta not be approved because it generates suicidal thoughts.

The pill had a live date of July 26, but the withdrawl of the application was due to there not being enough time to fix the drug. Sanofi-Aventis claims they are dedicated to getting the FDA approval, and will meet with the agency to find out what they need to do to make it right.

FDA shows that the individuals who took 1 pill a day showed significant weight loss. ZImulti with a proper diet had people losing 5% more than just dieting.

The FDA was against the drug because during the trial period 3 people killed themselves. There was an unconfirmed 4th suicide. Studies show that side effects include depression, suicide, and anxiety.

Hey, if you are gonna be depressed and upset,  cheaper to just be fat.

Dog Bites

Dog bites and attacks are some of the most horrific personal injuries that can occur, especially when a child is involved. In 1998, at least 27 people died from dog attacks. 70 % of those deaths were children, and 8 were adults. Its very important to teach your child dog safety to rpevent them from being a casualty.
Ohio has strict laws regarding this type of thing, stating basically,  the owner has committed the act that the animal did. The animals owner is liable whether it occurred in public or in his home. Hes also liable even if the dog had never acted like that prior or ever been aggressive, regardless of wheter the owner thought the dog would act that way. The dog does nto get a free bite. the only defense for the animal is if the injured party had provoked the animal.

Also, the old common law approach is also available for injured plaintiffs. Under the traditional approach, if the owner is aware or has reason to be aware of the dog’s violent propensities, the owner of the dog is liable for injuries caused by the dog.
